Haramaya University ሐረማያ ዩኒቨርሲቲን


Haramaya University (HU) is one of the public research university and the second oldest university located in Haramaya, Oromia Region, Ethiopia. It is approximately 510 kilometers (320 mi) east of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The agreement signed between the Imperial Ethiopian Government and the Government of the United States of America on May 15, 1952, laid the foundations for the establishment of Jimma Agricultural and Technical School and the Imperial College of Agricultural and Mechanical Arts (IECAMA). Haramaya University as "Haramaya University College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences" was established in 1954 and it was part of Addis Ababa University until 1985 when it upgraded full-fledged university of agriculture. The university converted to a multi-disciplinary university in 1996. The university was named "Haramaya University" in 2006. Currently, Haramaya University offers a total of 224 programs of which 106 are undergraduate programs, 104 are second-degree (M.Sc./M.Ed./MPH) and 14 are PhD. level. training programs, and more than 30,355 (2017/18) students and a total of 7,850 staff members.

The goal of Haramaya University is to evolve as an autonomous and independent (academic and research institution) graduate and research university with competitive national and international quality and relevance standards in its academic, research, and community services endeavors.
